El reptil marino más grande del mundo – nivel 2

Un padre y su hija encontraron un fósil en una playa de Somerset, Inglaterra. Los científicos lo identificaron como un gran reptil marino de hace 202 millones de años.
El Ichthyotitan severnensis medía entre 22 y 26 metros de largo, un tamaño similar al de las ballenas azules. Es uno de los mayores reptiles marinos que conocemos. El animal vivió durante el Periodo Triásico junto a los dinosaurios. Este descubrimiento y otro realizado en 2016 confirman la existencia de una nueva especie y nos ayudan a comprender la vida marina prehistórica.
En los océanos vivieron antaño criaturas marinas muy grandes, y sus fósiles nos dicen mucho sobre la evolución de la vida en la Tierra.
