Una explosión hidrotermal en el Parque Nacional de Yellowstone sorprendió a los visitantes. Vapor, roca y suciedad salieron disparados hacia el cielo, y la gente empezó a huir.
Nadie resultó herido, pero la explosión dañó un sendero de la zona de Biscuit Basin, y las autoridades tuvieron que cerrarlo. Explosiones similares se producen cuando el agua subterránea se convierte en vapor. Son habituales en Yellowstone y ocurrieron antes en 1959, 1991 y 2009. Los minerales que bloquean una tubería subterránea pudieron causar la última explosión.
Es difícil predecir estos sucesos porque pueden ocurrir de repente. Los funcionarios del parque y los científicos comprobarán si la explosión modificó el sistema subterráneo. Observarán el agua y la temperatura de los géiseres cercanos. No hay indicios de cambios en el sistema volcánico, y el parque es seguro.
