La menopausia es cuando las mujeres dejan de tener hijos.
Algunos animales, como las orcas, también dejan de tener crías. La mayoría de los animales siguen teniendo crías hasta que mueren. Pero los humanos y las orcas dejan de tener hijos antes. Los científicos creen que esto ocurre porque los humanos viven más. Pero no es así en el caso de las orcas. Otra idea es que tener hijos a una edad avanzada es peligroso. Pero no es la razón principal.
La mejor idea es la llamada hipótesis de la abuela. Esta idea dice que las mujeres mayores ayudan a las familias cuidando de los nietos. Esto ayuda a la familia y es mejor que tener más bebés.
