Según un estudio, el deshielo de la Antártida provocó un desastre. Ninguno de los polluelos de pingüino emperador de las cuatro colonias sobrevivió.
Las imágenes de satélite mostraron la falta de hielo en diciembre. Causó la muerte de unos 9.000 polluelos. Los niveles de hielo del año pasado fueron los más bajos de la historia. Los expertos afirman que el cambio climático hará que este tipo de incidentes sean más frecuentes. Casi el 30% de las colonias de pingüinos conocidas sufrieron a causa de los bajos niveles de hielo marino, y unas 13 colonias probablemente murieron.
Preocupan los futuros lugares de cría de los pingüinos, porque estos lugares están desapareciendo.
