La llama olímpica comienza en Roma. En un gran lugar deportivo, el líder del país enciende el fuego. La llama se dirige a Milán para los Juegos de Invierno. Es el comienzo de un largo viaje.
Muchas estrellas del deporte ayudan el primer día. Un deportista entrega la antorcha a otro. Un jugador de baloncesto con un duro problema de salud sostiene la antorcha. La gente aplaude mucho. Es un momento fuerte para mucha gente.
Después, los líderes de los grupos deportivos llevan la antorcha por la ciudad. Un jugador de tenis se reúne con mucha gente en un gran lugar abierto. Por la tarde, otro jugador de baloncesto lleva la llama cerca de un gran edificio antiguo. A continuación, la llama recorre toda Italia. Recorrerá Italia durante 63 días.
