La gente utiliza cohetes para ir al espacio. No es barato. Los cohetes son pesados. Necesitan mucho combustible para despegar. Llegar a la Luna o a Marte cuesta millones de dólares.
Hace tiempo que los científicos piensan en un ascensor espacial. El ascensor utiliza la gravedad de la Tierra. Pero no se dispone de los materiales y tecnologías adecuados para construirlo. Ningún material es suficientemente resistente.
Una idea es utilizar nanotubos de carbono. Este material parece tubos. Son muchos átomos de carbono juntos. Los nanotubos de carbono son más resistentes que otros materiales. Pero hay un problema. Millones de objetos vuelan en la atmósfera. Aunque se construya el ascensor, estos objetos probablemente lo dañarán.
