El sur de África está sufriendo una grave sequía causada por el fenómeno meteorológico El Niño, que hace que algunas zonas estén muy secas. Según Naciones Unidas, millones de personas carecen de alimentos suficientes.
Los gobiernos declararon una catástrofe nacional en cinco países: Lesoto, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia y Zimbabue. La sequía está arruinando las cosechas y matando animales. Angola y Mozambique también tienen grandes problemas.
Según la ONU, más de 27 millones de personas están sufriendo, y 21 millones de niños no reciben alimentos suficientes. La situación empeorará hasta la próxima cosecha, en marzo o abril de 2025. La ONU está dando alimentos y dinero en efectivo a las personas necesitadas, pero necesita mucho más.
