En el zoo de Praga, los trabajadores utilizan marionetas para alimentar a las crías de buitre. Las marionetas parecen los padres de los buitres.
Los cuidadores del zoo empezaron a alimentar a las crías de buitre a mano porque los verdaderos padres dejaron de ocuparse de ellas. Si las aves se acostumbran demasiado a las personas, pueden no aprender a convivir con otros buitres. Es un problema llamado impronta. Para evitarlo, el zoo utiliza marionetas que parecen buitres, para que las crías crean que están con su propia especie. El zoo también utilizó antes este método con otras aves.
El zoo de Praga es uno de los pocos lugares de Europa que cría estos buitres, también llamados buitres de sabana. Esto ayuda a las aves a crecer fuertes y preparadas para la vida salvaje.
