Los aeropuertos están probando vehículos autodirigidos, pero añadirlos es todo un reto porque el aeropuerto ya tiene mucho tráfico de aviones, pasajeros y camiones. Prueban la tecnología cuidadosamente para asegurarse de que es segura antes de utilizarla en todas partes.
Un ejemplo es una plataforma móvil de equipaje autónoma que transporta por sí sola el equipaje desde el almacén hasta los aviones. Utiliza cámaras y sensores para seguir las normas de tráfico, evitar obstáculos y detenerse ante los peatones. Estos vehículos ayudan a gestionar el equipaje de forma más rápida y eficaz, cambiando el funcionamiento de los aeropuertos. Otro reto es que los aeropuertos están muy abarrotados, por lo que la tecnología debe ser muy fiable.
Los expertos esperan aeropuertos totalmente autoconducidos para 2050. Aunque los coches autoconducidos son habituales en otros lugares, los aeropuertos están más controlados, por lo que la tecnología debe probarse bien para mantener los vuelos a tiempo y seguros. Este lento progreso garantiza la seguridad de todos en el aeropuerto.
