Las migrantes embarazadas que viajan a EEUU están recibiendo ayuda de comadronas en México. Estas voluntarias trabajan en refugios y campamentos y realizan revisiones médicas, masajes y ecografías. También ayudan a las madres a obtener otros cuidados médicos cuando los necesitan.
Una madre interrumpió su viaje porque estaba a punto de dar a luz. Se somete a revisiones cada dos semanas y dice que las comadronas la hacen sentir segura. Muchas mujeres embarazadas corren el riesgo de sufrir ataques y situaciones peligrosas.
Las comadronas dan ropa, cobijo y consejos para ayudar a las madres y a los bebés a mantenerse sanos. También se sienten unidas a las mujeres que las hacen sentirse más fuertes. Estos cuidados dan esperanza a las mujeres embarazadas en un duro viaje.
