Giorgio Armani, uno de los diseñadores de moda más famosos del mundo, ha fallecido a los 91 años.
Conocido como el Rey Giorgio, transformó la moda masculina en los años 70 suavizando la chaqueta tradicional, creando un estilo más relajado y natural. Su idea de que la elegancia significa sencillez guió su carrera durante cinco décadas.
Armani construyó un imperio de la moda que incluía alta costura, perfumes, interiorismo doméstico y hoteles, convirtiendo la moda italiana en un fenómeno global. Nacido en 1934 en Piacenza, Armani se trasladó a Milán tras la II Guerra Mundial. Primero estudió medicina, pero abandonó la universidad y más tarde entró en la industria de la moda por casualidad, trabajando en los grandes almacenes La Rinascente. Su gran oportunidad le llegó con el diseñador Nino Cerruti. En 1975 lanzó su propia marca, y más tarde ganó fama en Hollywood con la película American Gigolo, de Richard Gere.
A pesar de su éxito, Armani mantuvo el control de su empresa, negándose a vender acciones. Entre sus herederos hay miembros de su familia y colaboradores cercanos, y se espera que su marca continúe.
