El canciller alemán, Olaf Scholz, visitó China en medio de la creciente tensión entre Europa y Pekín. Tras una reunión con el primer ministro chino, Li Qiang, se puso de relieve que los intereses económicos de ambos países están estrechamente vinculados. El presidente Xi Jinping advirtió contra las medidas proteccionistas y abogó por el libre comercio.
El año pasado, Alemania adoptó una estrategia para reducir su dependencia de China. La visita de Scholz coincidió con el ataque de Irán a Israel, lo que le llevó a hacer un llamamiento a la moderación. También abordó la preocupación por el apoyo de China a Rusia en medio del conflicto de Ucrania. Alemania es pragmática en sus relaciones con China, pero los avances reales siguen siendo inciertos.
