Suiza comenzó su campaña en la Eurocopa 2024 con una victoria por 3-1 sobre Hungría en Colonia.
Breel Embolo regresó tras 18 meses de baja por lesión y celebró su gol decisivo que aseguró la victoria. El seleccionador Murat Yakin elogió la resistencia de Embolo a pesar de su escaso entrenamiento previo al torneo. Suiza se adelantó inicialmente por 2-0, con goles de Kwadwo Duah y Michel Aebischer. Hungría remontó con un gol de Barnabas Varga, pero el tanto postrero de Embolo selló la victoria suiza. Italia también consiguió una victoria por 2-1 contra Albania en Dortmund, recuperándose tras encajar el gol más rápido de la historia del torneo. En Berlín, España se impuso a Croacia por 3-0, y Lamine Yamal, de 16 años, se convirtió en el jugador más joven de la historia de la Eurocopa.
El próximo partido de Suiza es contra Escocia, mientras que Hungría se enfrenta a Alemania. La fase eliminatoria comienza el 29 de junio, y la final en Berlín el 15 de julio.
