Gareth Southgate dimitió como seleccionador de Inglaterra tras perder la final de la Eurocopa contra España por 2-1.
Hace tres años, Inglaterra perdió la final contra Italia en la tanda de penaltis. Southgate, de 53 años, dirigió a la selección durante ocho años y 102 partidos. Dijo que dirigir a Inglaterra había sido el honor de su vida. Tras la derrota ante España, dijo que necesitaba tiempo para decidir sobre su futuro. Pero ahora, ha decidido marcharse.
Southgate tuvo éxito. Llevó a Inglaterra a la semifinal del Mundial de 2018 y a dos finales de la Eurocopa. Pero muchos le criticaron por la actuación de Inglaterra en la Eurocopa 2024. En su mensaje de despedida, dio las gracias a sus jugadores y a su personal y dijo que estaba orgulloso de ellos. Espera que el equipo siga haciéndolo bien.
