Una unidad de cuidados intensivos neonatales es un lugar del hospital. Allí están los bebés muy pequeños. El personal debe cuidarlos todo el tiempo. Los padres también están con los niños. No pueden estar allí todo el tiempo. Se sienten mal por ello.
El personal tiene una idea en un centro médico de Chicago, EEUU. Ponen en marcha un programa de mimos voluntarios. Este programa comienza hace 35 años.
Las personas de este programa reciben una formación especial. Aprenden a mimar a los bebés. Aprenden a hacer que se sientan bien. Muchos de los voluntarios son padres.
Los voluntarios miman a los bebés. Les cantan y les hablan. Los estudios demuestran que estos bebés se sienten mejor. Están más sanos. Sus padres también se sienten mejor. Sus hijos no están solos.
