Los presidentes Zelensky y Trump se reunieron dentro de la Basílica de San Pedro en el funeral del Papa Francisco. Su conversación duró unos 15 minutos.
Zelensky dijo que fue una reunión muy simbólica, y la Casa Blanca afirmó que fue muy productiva. Hablaron justo antes de que comenzara el funeral. La reunión tuvo lugar un día después de que Trump dijera que Rusia y Ucrania estaban cerca de un acuerdo de paz. Otros funcionarios estadounidenses mantuvieron conversaciones con Putin en Moscú. Zelensky escribió más tarde que hablaron de detener la guerra y proteger a la población.
El día no era para hacer política, pero los hombres aprovecharon la ocasión para reunirse. Aún no está claro si Ucrania accederá a ceder algunas tierras, pero mucha gente espera que la reunión ayude a poner fin a la guerra.
