Un helecho de Nueva Caledonia tiene el mayor genoma de cualquier ser vivo.
El genoma es todo ADN. Este genoma mide 100 metros de largo. Si lo estiras, es más alto que el Big Ben. Es asombroso que una planta pequeña tenga tanto ADN. El helecho se llama Tmesipteris oblanceolate. Vive antes que los dinosaurios. Crece en los árboles de las selvas tropicales. El tamaño de su genoma es de 160.000 millones de pares de bases. Las personas sólo tenemos unos 3.000 millones de pares de bases. El helecho tiene tres récords mundiales por su gran genoma.
