Primer trasplante ocular del mundo – nivel 3

Unos cirujanos de Nueva York han logrado una hazaña revolucionaria al realizar el primer trasplante de ojo entero en un ser humano.
Aunque el paciente, Aaron Jame, no ha recuperado la vista en el ojo trasplantado tras una operación de 21 horas, el ojo injertado ha mostrado signos positivos de salud, como vasos sanguíneos que funcionan bien y una retina prometedora. El Dr. Eduardo Rodríguez, jefe del equipo quirúrgico de NYU Langone Health, destacó la importancia histórica del trasplante ocular, una hazaña considerada inalcanzable durante siglos.
El receptor, un veterano militar, se sometió inicialmente a la operación, que formaba parte de un trasplante parcial de cara, debido a un accidente eléctrico laboral que le dañó el lado izquierdo de la cara. Aunque el ojo actual no se comunica con el cerebro, el procedimiento abre posibilidades para futuros avances en la restauración de la visión.
