Halba Diouf, mujer transexual, tenía el sueño de competir en los Juegos Olímpicos de 2024 en París.
Se entrenó duro para la carrera de 200 metros, pero sus esperanzas se truncaron en marzo, cuando el Consejo Mundial de Atletismo prohibió que atletas como ella compitieran en pruebas femeninas. El consejo excluyó a los atletas transgénero de hombre a mujer para proteger la categoría femenina, que solía ser la principal razón para excluir a las mujeres trans de las competiciones deportivas. Hasta hace poco, las atletas transgénero femeninas podían competir en pruebas de alto nivel siempre que sus niveles naturales de testosterona fueran inferiores a 5 nanomoles por litro de sangre. Muchas personas criticaron esto por razones éticas.
En marzo de 2023, la Asociación Mundial de Atletismo redujo el nivel de testosterona natural a 2,5 nanomoles por litro de sangre y debe mantenerse durante dos años.
