El ataque se produce en Handlová, localidad situada a 145 kilómetros de Bratislava, la capital. Un vídeo muestra cómo el hombre dispara a Fico. El hombre dispara cinco veces. Fico cae. La policía atrapa al tirador. Fico está hospitalizado en Banská Bystrica. La situación es grave.
El tiroteo se produce ante la Casa de la Cultura de Handlová tras una reunión de políticos.
