El ministro ruso de Asuntos Exteriores, Sergei Lavrov, inicia una gira por tres países de África Occidental. Visitará Guinea.
Rusia quiere tener más influencia en África Occidental e invierte en la región. Empresas como Yango, un servicio ruso de taxis, operan en Senegal. La visita de Lavrov tiene que ver con la seguridad y con obtener acceso a los recursos de bauxita de Guinea. Rusia está consiguiendo más apoyo en África Occidental compartiendo vídeos de ayuda rusa en las redes sociales.
El comercio de Rusia con África es mucho menor que con la UE. El año pasado, Rusia intercambió 14.000 millones de dólares con África, mientras que la UE intercambió 300.000 millones. Los jóvenes africanos ven a Rusia como una nueva opción de ayuda económica y de seguridad. El presidente Vladimir Putin nunca ha visitado África, pero Lavrov lo ha hecho muchas veces.
