En su discurso de Año Nuevo, la reina Margarita II de Dinamarca sorprendió a todos al anunciar que abdicaría.
El 14 de enero de 2024, que es el aniversario de su acceso al trono, dejará el cargo. Su hijo, el príncipe heredero Federico, será el nuevo jefe de Dinamarca. La reina decidió renunciar debido a sus problemas de salud. Fue operada de la espalda en febrero. El primer ministro danés agradeció a la reina su trabajo.
La gente conoce a la reina Margarita II por su amabilidad y talento en idiomas y diseño, conservará el título de Su Majestad.
