Polonia, junto con Alemania y Holanda, ha firmado el acuerdo ‘Schengen militar‘, destinado a mejorar la movilidad de las tropas entre los Estados europeos.
El acuerdo es una respuesta a las preocupaciones de seguridad acrecentadas por el comportamiento de Rusia, y facilita la ayuda rápida a Ucrania y mejora la preparación del flanco oriental de la OTAN. El Ministro de Defensa polaco, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, subrayó la necesidad de una rápida movilización de tropas ante el conflicto de Ucrania. La embajadora holandesa, Daphne Bergsma, destacó la importancia de la movilidad militar para hacer frente a los retos geopolíticos.
Para Polonia, profundamente implicada en cuestiones de seguridad interior y exterior, iniciativas como el Schengen militar no sólo refuerzan la seguridad, sino también su posición en la UE tras un cambio de gobierno.
