En Pakistán, muchas personas roban electricidad, por lo que las autoridades están poniendo fin a esta práctica cortándoles la corriente. La gente roba alrededor del 30% de la electricidad del país. Los gobiernos anteriores no pudieron solucionar este problema. La gente soborna a los funcionarios para que ignoren los robos. Samiullah Khan tiene un taller de reparaciones en Mingora y necesita electricidad para su trabajo. Pero los cortes de electricidad duran de 16 a 18 horas al día, lo que perjudica mucho a su negocio.
El primer ministro Shehbaz Sharif quiere acabar con el robo de electricidad y reparar el viejo sistema eléctrico. Los nuevos proyectos son lentos por problemas de dinero, así que Pakistán compra combustibles fósiles caros. La electricidad cuesta un 45% más que en otros países cercanos, y el Fondo Monetario Internacional quiere que los precios suban más. Los altos precios de los combustibles encarecen la electricidad, y el clima muy caluroso, de más de 50°C, empeora aún más la vida sin suficiente energía.
