Nepal se enfrenta a la peor crisis política de su historia reciente. Han estallado protestas masivas después de que el gobierno prohibiera plataformas de medios sociales como Facebook e Instagram.
Los jóvenes, frustrados por la corrupción, el desempleo y la falta de oportunidades, llenaron las calles. El gobierno intentó detenerlos con una violenta represión, matando a 19 manifestantes e hiriendo a muchos más. En lugar de calmar la situación, esta violencia enfureció aún más a la población. Prendieron fuego a edificios gubernamentales, incluidos el Parlamento y el Tribunal Supremo, y atacaron a ministros y líderes de la oposición. El primer ministro KP Sharma Oli acabó dimitiendo, diciendo que quería una solución política, pero su marcha ha dejado a Nepal sumido en la incertidumbre.
El ejército y el presidente hacen un llamamiento a la calma, pero el futuro sigue sin estar claro. Muchos manifestantes exigen líderes más jóvenes, y han aparecido dos nombres: Balendra Shah, alcalde de Katmandú de 35 años, y Rabi Lamichhane, político recientemente excarcelado. Los próximos días decidirán si los disturbios terminan o aumentan.
