Nepal celebró Shivaratri en Katmandú. Grandes multitudes acudieron al templo de Pashupatinath para honrar a Shiva. La gente esperó durante horas para rezar, cantar y bailar. También acudieron visitantes de la India para unirse a la fiesta. La marihuana es ilegal en Nepal durante la mayor parte del año. Pero durante esta fiesta, la policía permite su consumo debido a la relación entre Shiva y el cannabis. Hombres santos y jóvenes fumaban cerca del río Bagmati.

Nepal prohibió la marihuana en 1976 después de muchos años de venta legal. Algunas personas quieren cambiar la ley, pero aún no ha pasado nada. En este día especial, la tradición es más importante que la ley.
