Hugo Aguilar se convierte en el primer magistrado presidente indígena de México en más de 150 años. Proviene de la comunidad mixteca y conoce el derecho agrario y los derechos indígenas.
Mucha gente espera que su cargo ayude a los indígenas mexicanos, que a menudo no ocupan puestos importantes. Este cambio es histórico y emocionante para su comunidad. Algunas personas critican cómo consiguió el puesto. El partido político Morena ayudó a apoyarle a él y a otros jueces que coinciden con el partido. Aguilar también tuvo un papel en el pasado en un proyecto con un tren turístico que no gustó a algunos indígenas. Los críticos dicen que ayudó al proyecto en lugar de a las comunidades.
En los próximos dos años, tendrá que demostrar si apoyará a los indígenas o principalmente al gobierno. Sus decisiones pueden afectar a la justicia en México.
