El ministro israelí de Patrimonio, Amihai Eliyahu, mencionó la posibilidad de utilizar una bomba nuclear contra Gaza durante una entrevista radiofónica.
Sin embargo, el primer ministro israelí, Benjamín Netanyahu, distanció rápidamente al gobierno de este comentario, afirmando que no se basaba en la realidad y que Israel se atiene al derecho internacional para evitar dañar a personas inocentes. Eliyahu afirmó posteriormente que su comentario era metafórico. Gaza ha sufrido intensos bombardeos recientemente, y las Fuerzas de Defensa Israelíes (IDF) han dividido Gaza en dos partes, con preparativos para entrar en la ciudad de Gaza. Hamás informa de más de 10.000 bajas en Gaza, y la situación humanitaria se está deteriorando.
El ejército jordano lanzó suministros médicos desde el aire al norte de Gaza, en coordinación con Israel, pero los llamamientos de Estados Unidos y otros países para que se haga una pausa humanitaria en las hostilidades siguen sin respuesta.
