El presidente iraní Ebrahim Raisi murió en un accidente de helicóptero cerca de la frontera con Azerbaiyán.
El accidente fue causado por el mal tiempo, y en él murieron también el ministro de Asuntos Exteriores, Hossein Amirabdollahian, y otras seis personas. El líder supremo Jamenei declaró cinco días de luto público y anunció que el vicepresidente primero Mohammad Mokhber actuaría como presidente interino. La muerte de Raisi se produjo en un momento de agitación política y social en Irán, con presiones internacionales por su programa nuclear y sus vínculos con Rusia.
La reacción pública a la muerte de Raisi fue variada. Los partidarios del gobierno se reunieron para guardar luto, mientras que otros, especialmente los que se oponían a la política de Raisi, expresaron reacciones mudas o incluso celebraron su muerte. Esto refleja las profundas divisiones existentes en la sociedad iraní sobre la gestión de las diversas crisis por parte del régimen clerical.
