El presidente iraní Ebrahim Raisi murió en un accidente de helicóptero cerca de la frontera con Azerbaiyán.
En el accidente también murieron el ministro de Asuntos Exteriores, Hossein Amirabdollahian, y otras seis personas. El mal tiempo provocó el accidente. Las autoridades anunciaron cinco días de luto y dijeron que el vicepresidente primero Mohammad Mokhber sería el presidente provisional.
La muerte de Raisi se produce en un momento en que Irán se enfrenta a muchos problemas, como su programa nuclear y sus contactos con Rusia. En Irán, la gente reaccionó de distintas maneras ante su muerte. Algunos lo lloraron, pero otros que estaban en contra de sus estrictas políticas no se entristecieron e incluso lo celebraron.
