Incendios forestales en Grecia – nivel 3

Varios países de la UE, entre ellos Francia e Italia, están ayudando a Grecia en su lucha contra los incendios forestales que se extienden hacia Atenas.
Los bomberos han encontrado el cadáver de una mujer en una fábrica incendiada en un suburbio de Atenas, y muchas personas han resultado heridas a medida que el fuego se propagaba rápidamente. La situación es crítica. Los bomberos ya no se enfrentan a un único incendio, sino a varios en distintas zonas. Se han evacuado barrios enteros al norte de Atenas, y los residentes contemplaban impotentes cómo las llamas destruían sus casas. Los fuertes vientos y las condiciones secas han dificultado el control de los incendios, y algunas llamas han alcanzado más de 25 metros de altura. El fuego ha quemado ya unas 10.000 hectáreas de terreno.
Los países de la UE están enviando equipos y asistencia, incluidos helicópteros y tropas de tierra, para ayudar a las autoridades griegas. El gobierno griego ha recibido críticas por no estar mejor preparado, a pesar de los esfuerzos por controlar la vegetación y establecer cortafuegos.
