En Perú se extrae oro. Esto ocurre ilegalmente. Los científicos comprueban si los animales están contaminados por la extracción de oro.
Los científicos analizan ratas y otros animales pequeños. Algunos animales tienen mercurio en el cuerpo. El mercurio es un metal muy peligroso. Procede de la minería. Hace daño a los animales y a las personas. En la selva donde trabajan hay muchas plantas y animales. Pero algunos animales están enfermando. Los científicos creen que algunos animales pueden tener menos crías en el futuro.
Los científicos quieren saber más sobre esto y ayudar a los animales de todo el mundo.
