Algunas zonas, como las montañas de San Gabriel, son muy secas y ventosas. Los incendios pueden propagarse rápidamente.
Las autoridades piden a la gente que no utilice fuegos artificiales ni nada que pueda provocar un incendio. Si alguien tiene fuegos artificiales ilegales, puede ser multado o ir a la cárcel.
