Grecia cerró la Acrópolis para proteger a los turistas de unas temperaturas abrasadoras que superaban los 38 grados centígrados.

Italia se enfrenta a una fase de ola de calor denominada Caronte, con condiciones extremas en varios países europeos, que podrían batir récords de temperatura.

Se cree que el sofocante calor del verano pasado causó unas 61.000 muertes en Europa, lo que ha hecho necesario adoptar medidas eficaces para combatir las olas de calor. Se espera que el sur de Europa experimente temperaturas récord la próxima semana. Los expertos sugieren coordinar las entidades públicas, identificar a las poblaciones vulnerables y mejorar las condiciones de vivienda en las ciudades para mitigar el impacto.

Los ancianos más pobres con problemas de salud corren especial riesgo, sobre todo los que carecen de acceso al aire acondicionado.
