Groenlandia tiene muchos metales especiales llamados tierras raras. La gente los utiliza para fabricar teléfonos, ordenadores y cohetes.
La mayoría de estos metales proceden ahora de China, pero EEUU y Europa quieren encontrar su propio suministro. Una empresa llamada Critical Metals quiere abrir una mina en el sur de Groenlandia. La minería allí es difícil porque está lejos, hace frío y tiene poco transporte. Algunos habitantes de la zona esperan que traiga nuevos puestos de trabajo y dinero. A otros les preocupa el medio ambiente.
El mundo está atento porque Groenlandia puede convertirse en un lugar importante para estos valiosos materiales.
