Los productos menstruales de plástico son muy perjudiciales para la naturaleza. Ocupan el quinto lugar entre los plásticos de un solo uso en las playas europeas, por encima incluso de los vasos y las pajitas de plástico.
El Parlamento Europeo dijo que era necesario buscar alternativas. Una de esas alternativas son las fibras de biopolímero que proceden de las algas. Son naturalmente blancas o incoloras, por lo que no es necesario blanquearlas. Estas fibras se utilizan para fabricar tampones, pero su impacto climático depende de cómo cultiven las algas los agricultores. Cada vez hay más empresas que buscan una solución que sea más respetuosa con el mundo natural, pero segura para que la usen las mujeres.
