Las intensas lluvias del antiguo ciclón tropical Jasper han provocado graves inundaciones en el noreste de Australia, aislando varias ciudades.

Queensland experimentó lluvias récord, causando inundaciones repentinas generalizadas. El primer ministro Steven Miles ha calificado las inundaciones como las peores que se recuerdan. En Ingham, una ciudad de 5.000 habitantes, las autoridades capturaron un cocodrilo en un desagüe pluvial. La ciudad puerta de entrada a la Gran Barrera de Coral, con más de 150.000 habitantes, recibió el triple de la precipitación media de diciembre en 40 horas. Se pronostican más lluvias, y se han emitido avisos de inundaciones importantes. Miles de personas han sido evacuadas, y los cortes de electricidad afectan a más de 14.000 propiedades. El Primer Ministro Anthony Albanese mencionó que las Fuerzas de Defensa están preparadas para las labores de rescate. Australia se enfrenta a condiciones meteorológicas extremas, con el noreste luchando contra las inundaciones mientras el sureste está en alerta por incendios forestales.
