El hielo marino de la Antártida alcanzó este invierno su menor cantidad histórica, según un informe.
Esto preocupa a los científicos, que creen que el cambio climático está causando problemas en la parte meridional del mundo. Este cambio podría perjudicar a animales como los pingüinos, que dependen del hielo marino para vivir y criar a sus bebés. También podría empeorar el calentamiento global porque menos hielo refleja menos luz solar hacia el espacio.
Según el informe, el hielo marino cubría 16,96 millones de kilómetros cuadrados en su punto más alto el 10 de septiembre. Es la cifra más baja desde que los científicos empezaron a utilizar satélites en 1979. Es incluso inferior al antiguo récord de 1986, que tenía alrededor de 1 millón de kilómetros cuadrados más de hielo.
