Alpacas en Gales – nivel 2

Varias alpacas, originarias de Perú, han encontrado un nuevo hogar en una granja del oeste de Gales.
Las alpacas se alojan en una granja con 12 ovejas y científicos de la Universidad de Aberystwyth están estudiando cómo conviven los animales entre sí y qué impacto tienen las alpacas en la zona. Las alpacas detectan más fácilmente a los depredadores, por ejemplo, los zorros, lo que ayuda a mantener a salvo a las ovejas. Otro beneficio es que las alpacas comen especies invasoras de hierba, lo que deja mejor pasto para las ovejas.
Los científicos afirman que las alpacas tienen un gran impacto en el medio ambiente porque ayudan a salvar las turberas. Las turberas eran muy importantes porque ayudaban a reducir el dióxido de carbono en el aire.
