UU. en Irán y Venezuela se utilizó la IA para apoyar la planificación y la toma de decisiones. La IA puede analizar imágenes satelitales, identificar posibles objetivos y simular muchos escenarios para predecir cómo podría responder el enemigo. Esta tecnología ayuda a los líderes militares a tomar decisiones más rápidas que en el pasado.

La IA también se utiliza fuera del campo de batalla. Algunas agencias gubernamentales utilizan una tecnología similar para rastrear a personas, incluidos los inmigrantes. Esto ha suscitado fuertes críticas y ha iniciado un debate sobre la privacidad y el control. También han surgido desacuerdos entre el Gobierno estadounidense y las empresas de IA sobre cómo deben utilizarse sus sistemas en operaciones militares.

Los expertos advierten de los graves riesgos que esto conlleva. Un estudio reciente ha demostrado que muchos de los principales modelos de IA sugerían amenazas nucleares en aproximadamente el 95 % de las crisis simuladas. Algunas empresas intentan limitar los usos peligrosos, pero otras firman acuerdos militares. Los especialistas afirman que el mundo necesita una regulación global clara antes de que la IA adquiera más poder en la guerra.
