Una panda gigante llamada Ya Ya vive en un zoo de Tennessee desde hace veinte años. Ahora, regresa a China.
En 2003, Ya Ya y un panda gigante macho llamado Le Le llegaron al zoo de Memphis. Ya Ya tenía entonces sólo tres años. Le Le muere en febrero. Tiene el corazón enfermo. Los animales representan la amistad entre China y Estados Unidos. Sin embargo, los defensores de los animales se preocupan por la salud de Ya Ya. Ven vídeos en Internet en los que tiene menos pelo. Parece delgada. China dice que EEUU la trata mal. Pero el zoo dice que no es cierto.
El zoo explica en su sitio web que Ya Ya tiene una enfermedad de la piel y el pelaje. La enfermedad no afecta a su vida. Pero a veces hace que su pelo parezca fino. El equipo del zoo cuida bien de ella y comprueba a menudo su estado.
