Los equipos de rescate ayudaron a un hombre llamado Ryan Wardwell, de 46 años, que llevaba dos días atrapado tras una cascada en California.
Ryan estaba descendiendo en rappel por las cataratas Seven Teacups el 10 de agosto, cuando la fuerza del agua lo empujó fuera de la cuerda y lo metió en una cueva situada detrás de la cascada. Cuando no regresó a su coche, la policía inició una búsqueda con aviones, drones y cámaras de infrarrojos.
Los equipos de rescate lo encontraron al día siguiente, y un helicóptero lo sacó de allí. Wardwell estaba vivo pero débil, con frío y mucha sed. Sólo tenía pequeñas heridas y se reunió con su familia. La policía compartió más tarde el vídeo del rescate en helicóptero, que mucha gente vio en Internet. Las autoridades lo calificaron de impresionante historia de supervivencia y advirtieron a los visitantes que tuvieran cuidado cerca de los ríos fuertes.
