Una joven australiana llamada Holly Bowles murió en Laos por intoxicación de metanol. Estaba de vacaciones con su mejor amiga, Bianca Jones, que también murió.
Otra víctima fue una abogada del Reino Unido, Simone White, y dos jóvenes de Dinamarca. También murió un estadounidense. Estaban en una ciudad llamada Vang Vieng, popular entre los viajeros. Algunas personas que enfermaron acabaron en hospitales de Tailandia. La intoxicación por metanol es peligrosa y puede matar incluso con una pequeña cantidad. Las víctimas se alojaban en un albergue llamado Nana.
Muchos turistas están abandonando la ciudad por lo ocurrido. La noticia se difundió rápidamente; algunas personas evitan Laos, pero otras no están preocupadas. Los viajeros deben tener cuidado y mantenerse a salvo.
