Intoxicación por metanol en Laos – nivel 3

La australiana Holly Bowles, de 19 años, ha fallecido trágicamente en Laos, presuntamente envenenada con metanol. Estaba de vacaciones con su mejor amiga, Bianca Jones, que también murió.
Otra víctima fue Simone White, abogada británica, y también han muerto dos jóvenes de Dinamarca, de 19 y 20 años. Un hombre estadounidense de unos 50 años se encuentra entre las víctimas. Todos ellos se encontraban en Vang Vieng, ciudad de Laos popular entre los mochileros. Otros enfermos fueron trasladados a hospitales de Tailandia. La intoxicación por metanol puede ser mortal, incluso con una pequeña cantidad. Muchas de las víctimas se alojaban en el albergue Nana de Laos, y el director del albergue ha sido detenido. La ciudad es ahora menos popular, pues muchos turistas la evitan.
La noticia de estas muertes se ha difundido rápidamente, y aunque algunos viajeros ahora evitan Laos, otros no están demasiado preocupados. Es una situación trágica; sin embargo, los turistas deben ser más precavidos al viajar.
