Una investigación encubierta de la BBC demostró que algunas empresas alimentarias de Inglaterra y Gales no dicen la verdad sobre sus calificaciones higiénicas.
La Agencia de Normas Alimentarias (FSA) otorga estas calificaciones para mostrar lo limpio y seguro que es un local y cómo manipula los alimentos. Pero algunos locales mentían. Mostraban calificaciones mejores de las que tenían. Por ejemplo, un supermercado Sainsbury’s dijo que tenía una puntuación de cinco, pero la verdad era que tenía un cero debido a graves problemas.
Los expertos afirmaron que esto está ocurriendo también en muchos otros lugares. Cuando los periodistas preguntaron al respecto, algunos comercios lo negaron, y otros no dijeron nada en absoluto. Los expertos en alimentación afirman que este problema es habitual en todo el Reino Unido.
