El negocio del litio en Argentina – nivel 1

En el norte de Argentina hay un proyecto para ayudar a la energía verde.

En Salta, unos tubos negros llenan un gran depósito con agua salada procedente de las profundidades del subsuelo. Esta agua tiene litio, que la gente necesita para fabricar baterías de coches eléctricos. La empresa francesa Aramet está utilizando una nueva forma de obtener litio más rápidamente y con menos agua. Esta nueva forma no utiliza grandes piscinas para secar el agua. Jean-Baptiste Ort es el jefe del negocio de litio de Aramet. Dice que la nueva forma obtendrá el 90% del litio, mientras que la antigua sólo consigue el 40-50%. Otras empresas están observando para ver si funciona. Aramet tiene previsto fabricar su primera tonelada de carbonato de litio en noviembre y quiere alcanzar las 24.000 toneladas métricas anuales en 2025. Esto podría ayudar a Argentina a fabricar más litio como Chile, que fabrica la mayor cantidad de litio de América Latina.

Ahora hay demasiado litio en el mercado. Los precios del litio son bajos. Pero Ort cree que seguirán ganando dinero.
