Exxon compra Pioneer – nivel 3

Exxon Mobil ha acordado adquirir a su rival estadounidense Pioneer Natural Resources en una operación totalmente en acciones valorada en 59.500 millones de dólares, con lo que se convertirá en el mayor productor del mayor yacimiento petrolífero de EEUU, la cuenca del Pérmico.

El acuerdo combina a la mayor petrolera estadounidense con Pioneer, un actor importante en la revolución del esquisto que convirtió a EE.UU. en el mayor productor mundial de petróleo en poco más de una década. La empresa fusionada pretende aumentar significativamente la producción de petróleo y gas y reducir las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero combinando la tecnología de Exxon con los menores costes operativos de Pioneer. El director general de Pioneer, Scott Sheffield, se incorporará al consejo de Exxon; sin embargo, aún no se ha determinado quién dirigirá la operación combinada.

Se espera que el acuerdo se cierre a principios de 2024, y no se prevén desafíos antimonopolio.
