Volkswagen, el mayor fabricante de automóviles de Europa, planea invertir en minas para fabricar baterías para coches eléctricos.
Los fabricantes de automóviles no quieren depender de terceros que les suministren energía y materias primas. Quieren ser más independientes y controlar mejor la cadena de suministro. Los fabricantes también necesitan cumplir los objetivos de electrificación de la UE, pero las materias primas que necesitan para las baterías son escasas y las minas tienen una capacidad limitada.
Los mayores fabricantes de automóviles, como Tesla y Volkswagen, buscan formas de abaratar los coches eléctricos, e invertir en minas parece una buena manera de hacerlo.
