Los nuevos medicamentos para la enfermedad de Alzheimer están provocando un gran debate entre los científicos.
Durante mucho tiempo, la gente esperaba que estos medicamentos supusieran un gran avance, ya que eliminan una proteína específica del cerebro. Un nuevo informe afirma que, en realidad, el beneficio para los pacientes es muy escaso. No es suficiente para cambiar mucho sus vidas. Otro problema es el coste: el tratamiento cuesta unos 100 000 euros, una cifra demasiado elevada para el sistema de salud pública del Reino Unido.
Algunos científicos no están de acuerdo con el informe y dicen que los medicamentos siguen siendo útiles. Pero los autores del estudio creen que tenemos que encontrar formas diferentes de tratar la enfermedad, ya que estos medicamentos podrían no ser la mejor solución.
