Los rebeldes, aliados de Teherán, prometieron continuar las acciones militares hasta que cese la agresión a Gaza. Israel se opone firmemente. Israel afirma que el barco es de propiedad británica y está operado por japoneses.
Los rebeldes amenazaron recientemente a barcos israelíes a causa del conflicto de Hamás. Japón confirmó que habían capturado el Galaxy Leader y que necesitaban ayuda para volver a liberarlo. Ray Car Carriers, el propietario del barco, tiene vínculos con un empresario israelí.
